Princess Diaries 3: Anne Hathaway reveals there is a script for sequel and Julie Andrews 'wants to do it'
The actor says she and the rest of the team don't want to move forward until the sequel is 'perfect'
Anne Hathaway has confirmed that a Princess Diaries sequel is in the works – and has revealed that Julie Andrews is on board to make it happen.
The actor gave more insight into a possible Princess Diaries 3 on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, making it clear that there is a lot of enthusiasm about the project.
"There is a script for the third movie," Hathaway said.
She added: "I want to do it, Julie want to do it, Debra Martin Chase our producer wants to do it.
"We all really want it to happen, it's just we don't want to do it unless it's perfect."
Hathaway said she and the rest of the team don't want to "deliver anything until it's ready" but are "working on it".
The Princess Diaries, based on Meg Cabot's book series of the same name, came out in 2001 with Hathaway in the role of Mia Thermopolis, a teenager who discovers she's a princess and the heir to the small European kingdom of Genovia. Andrews plays her grandmother Clarisse Renaldi, the queen of Genovia.
A sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, came out in 2004. The franchise has acquired a cult following and remains popular to this day.
