Jameela Jamil criticises Quentin Tarantino for casting 'attacker' Emile Hirsch in new film: 'He strangled my best friend'

The actor was convicted of assaulting a Paramount executive in 2015

Jameela Jamil has taken exception to the casting of one particular actor in the next film from Quentin Tarantino.

Earlier this week, a crop of actors were added to the cast list for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood which will unite the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Al Pacino, Margot Robbie and Dakota Fanning.

Emile Hirsch was also cast in the film, a decision that The Good Place star has heavily criticised due to his previous arrest for attacking a woman three years ago.

“Cool. Emile Hirsch strangled my tiny female best friend until she blacked out at a party in front of dozens of witnesses at Sundance Film Festival (and was convicted) but Tarantino just cast him in a movie,” she wrote on Twitter, slamming the move as a “case of rich white male privilege.”

In 2015, Hirsch was convicted of assaulting a Paramount Pictures executive at a nightclub during the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. According to allegations, the actor “blindsided” Dani Bernfeld by putting her in a choke-hold and throwing her on the ground. he later pleaded guilty to a charge of misdemeanour assault.

Jamil - a friend of Bernfeld who she says was left with PTSD following the incident - claims the actor failed to even issue an apology for his alleged actions.

“Slow clap to everyone involved in this movie,” Jamil added, berating producers for failing to pick an actor “who [hasn't] attacked women.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - which will be set to the backdrop of the Manson Family Murders in 1969 - also stars Brad Pitt, Damien Lewis, Timothy Olyphant and Westworld stars James Marsden and Clifton Collins, Jr.

It will be released in August 2019.
