Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight to run three hours with intermission and overture

It will have a classic Western feel right down to the acting

Quentin Tarantino, a renowned nostalgist when it comes to cinema, is hoping to offer a classic theatrical experience with his new movie The Hateful Eight.

“The movie has an overture and Intermission” star Kurt Russell told Showbiz411, “there are also chapter headings.”

“It’s a straight-forward Western, Sergio Leone-like Western,” he added. “It’s an intricate story and in the beginning you don’t know why it’s taking so long”.

The first half of the film mostly takes place in a stagecoach travelling through snowy Wyoming, and is said to have a slow burn nature to it, I imagine a bit like 2010’s excellent western Meek’s Cutoff.

“The acting’s not subtle,” Russell said, comparing it to old movies, “It’s almost jarring sometimes.”

He says that there’s “much more of an emotional payoff…it’s endlessly fun to watch.

“We rehearsed for a month, so when we started shooting we were completely ready to go. You’ll see some fairly long takes. It’s one of the few movies I still remember my lines from.”

The Hateful Eight was shot with 70mm film and opens in UK cinemas on 8 January.
