This year’s Golden Globes ceremony brought with it numerous defining moments: La La Land’s historic win, Donald Glover’s brilliant speech, and Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig’s hilarious presenting sketch.

However, the most talked about moment of the night came when Meryl Streep attacked Donald Trump while accepting the Cecil B DeMille award.

“There was one performance this year that stunned me,” she told the audience. “It sank its hooks in my heart. It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter. Someone he outranked in privilege, power and the capacity to fight back.”

Following the speech, Trump dismissed Streep as a Hilary supporter who was overrated, while the likes of George Clooney voiced support for the actor.

Robert De Niro has become the latest famous face to offer support to Streep, writing a touching personal letter to his Falling in Love co-star.

De Niro’s letter to Streep

Meryl

What you said was great. It needed to be said, and you said it beautifully. I have so much respect for you that you did it while the world was celebrating your achievements. I share your sentiments about punks and bullies. Enough is enough. You, with your elegance and intelligence, have a powerful voice – one that inspires others to speak up as they should so their voices will be heard too. It is so important that we ALL speak up.

We love you.

Bob.

Other actors who spoke out against Trump at the Golden Globes including Hugh Laurie, Viola Davis and - surprisingly - Jimmy Fallon.
