Run the Jewels lawyer up over Kevin Hart movie literally called 'Run the Jewels'

El-P can't believe they didn't even receive so much as a call about it

El-P, one half of rap duo Run the Jewels, was pretty confused today to find reports that a major Universal film named Run the Jewels is in the works.

Now, this might be acceptable if it was about a heist, the phrase originating in a demand for a store clerk to relinquish jewelry/money etc, but it’s about a rap group. It’s not a particularly positive story about a rap group either, centring on a failed one which tries to rob a wealthy hip-hop mogul.

This all begs the question: why would the studio not put in a call to Run the Jewels first?

"Excuse me while I go starve a savage pack of lawyers for 7 days,” El-P wrote on Twitter, a reference to Sunday night’s Game of Thrones.

When a fan questioned why El-P and Killer Mike or their people hadn’t received a call, El-P added: “Prolly lost our number. It’s cool we'll be calling them.”

It remains to be seen whether the duo have a case, or if the phrase will be deemed in common usage.

Run the Jewels will be an action comedy from Fuck Marry Kill writers Alex Blagg and Neel Shah and come out under Kevin Hart’s Heartbeat Productions banner. No-one attached to the film has, at the time of writing, tweeted about the potential infringement.
