SAG Awards: Tom Hanks to present Bridge of Spies co-star Alan Alda with lifetime achievement prize
The actors co-starred in Steven Spielberg's 2015 film 'Bridge of Spies'
Tom Hanks will present Alan Alda with the lifetime achievement award during the 2019 Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The awards are decided on by the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and focus simply on acting categories, with the winners usually a strong indicator of who will pick up the prize when it comes to Oscars night.
Hank and Alda starred together in Steven Spielberg's 2015 film Bridge of Spies, where Hanks played James Donovan, the lawyer defending KGB agent Rudolf Abel on charges of spying, while Alda played Thomas Watters, a partner Donovan's law firm.
“It is an honor and privilege to announce that our SAG Life Achievement Award will be presented to the fabulous Alan Alda,” SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris said in a statement in October.
“He is an artist whose body of work is a testament to the craft and the magic of our business. His ability to make us laugh, to think and to feel is extraordinary."
"From theater to television, movies, and new media, Alan’s dedication and talent are exceeded only by his contributions to a just and caring society.”
Past recipients include Lily Tomlin, Carol Burnett, Debbie Reynolds, Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Ernest Borgnine and Betty White. The SAG Awards will take place on Sunday, 27 Jan January.
