Shaft: Official trailer

The first trailer for Shaft, the latest in the action franchise, teams together three generations of the legendary private eye.

Samuel L Jackson returns as John Shaft II, as seen in the film from 2000, which served as an official sequel and a fourth installment of the Shaft series.

Jackson’s character is the nephew of the original Shaft, played by Richard Roundtree in the 1971 film and its two sequels.

The latest film also introduces us to the son of Jackson’s character, John Shaft Jr (Jessie T Usher), who struggles to emulate his father’s badass demeanour.

A cyber security expert with a degree from MIT, he realises he needs his father’s help to uncover the truth behind his best friend’s death.

The film is directed by Tim Story, with a script by Kenya Barris and Alex Barnow. The film also stars Regina Hall, Alexandra Shipp, Matt Lauria, Titus Welliver, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, and Avan Jogia.

Shaft will be released in UK cinemas on 14 June.
