Lucasfilm president and Solo: A Star Wars Story producer Kathleen Kennedy has revealed the advice Harrison Ford offered to the film's star Alden Ehrenreich.

We already knew Ford had sat down for lunch with Ahrenreich in January last year before production on the film began, but the young actor had kept his mouth shut about what exactly he'd be told.

"I gotta stick to my orders from the man himself," he said. "[Ford said] tell them I told you everything you needed to know, and that you can't tell anyone."

Since then, however, Entertainment Weekly has reported how, while the original Han kept "a respectful distance" from the upcoming film, he provided Ahrenrich with some vital insights into his iconic character.

Kennedy said she called Ford after his lunch. "It was perfect, classic Harrison." She imitated him: "Good kid, good kid. Really good kid."

She also revealed she had sent Ford the script, which he read and approved. "I think being who Harrison is, there is no way he would step into the middle of this and start trying to dictate," she said.

"What [Ford] did so beautifully for Alden was he talked a lot about what he remembered when he first read Star Wars, and what George had done with Han. Who the character was and the conversations he had for so many years with George about how that character developed," she said.

"He gave Alden that kind of insight which was invaluable. There were several times in the course of making the movie where Alden would actually recount some of the things that Harrison had pointed out. I think that was really, really helpful to him."

The first full trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story was released last week, and teased a race down the Kessel Run alongside a deceitful origin story.

A 40-second clip debuted during the Super Bowl last Sunday, and the full trailer landed less than 24-hours later during ABC's Good Morning America.

The official synopsis reads: "Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy.

"Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future co-pilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga's most unlikely heroes."

Solo: A Star Wars Story is set for release in cinemas on 25 May.
