Peter Parker is a known Star Wars fan, so how come Spider-Man can happily hang out with Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) and not recognise Mace Windu, Jackson’s character in the franchise?

That is the question that the Russo brothers attempted to explain away during a recent interview.

The two filmmakers, who most recently directed Tom Holland and Jackson in Avengers: Endgame, addressed the topic on The Star Wars Show.

“We know Peter Parker has watched Star Wars, and he’s hanging out with Mace Windu and Lando Calrissian [Donald Glover, who also appears in Spider-Man: Homecoming],” host Anthony Carboni asked Anthony and Joe Russo.

“How does this work?”

“They just look like those characters,” Anthony said.

“Yes, Nick Fury happens to look a lot like Mace Windu,” Joe added.

When Carboni asked if looking like an Oscar-winning actor made Nick Fury’s job as a spy more difficult, Anthony replied: “That’s how good Nick Fury is.”

Peter Parker and Nick Fury are seen interacting several times in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the latest instalment in the Spider-Man franchise, released in July.
