Spider-Man: No Way Home teaser trailer

It has been mere hours since the trailer forSpider-Man: No Way Home dropped and the rumour mill is already in overdrive.

The first official look at Tom Holland’s third outing as the superhero was released on Tuesday (24 August), a day after it was leaked online.

Alfred Molina has been welcomed back as Doctor Octopus with Jamie Foxx’s appearance as Electro also teased.

It has not taken long for Marvel fans to spot numerous Easter eggs in the brief clip, including a Green Goblin teaser that has viewers excited for a potential William Dafoe cameo.

Many fans have taken the trailer as further indication that Charlie Cox – the star of Netflix’s acclaimed Daredevil series – may be reprising his role as Matt Murdock and serving as Peter Parker’s lawyer.

The storyline would make sense given that the closing moments of 2019’s Far From Home saw Holland’s superhero falsely accused by Quentin “Mysterio” Beck (Jake Gyllenhaal) of carrying out a drone attack in London.

Eagle-eyed viewers on Twitter pointed out that one scene in the trailer sees Holland sat at a table with an associate, who is out of shot other than his rolled up white shirt sleeves.

Many fans noted that the unidentified man slamming the paperwork down in front of Peter is possibly fellow Marvel character Daredevil, aka Matt Murdock, who is also a lawyer.

“Charlie Cox’s Daredevil as Peter’s lawyer?? Sweeeet,” wrote one user.

“Time for spiderman theories,” said another. “This has to be Matt Murdock right? Detectives tht would be sharing all of their fines openly like this during an interrogation. Only a lawyer would amirite. Im just rlly truna get daredevil back pls. [sic].”

A third person added: “Wait. Daredevil as Peter’s lawyer??? PLEASE.”

One user noted that the “devil in disguise” sign seen behind Peter and MJ (Zendaya) in the trailer may also be further suggestion that Cox will star in the film.

“Marvel I am begging you PLEASE let his lawyer be matt murdock. P l e a s e. Bring daredevil back,” added someone else, while another wrote: “I do believe DareDevil is Spiderman’s lawyer.”

Since the film is reintroducing past Spider-Man villains, including Molina’s Doctor Octopus and Foxx’s Electro, it would not be a stretch to see Daredevil appear as well.

The timing of Cox’s appearance in the MCU would also make sense given that Netflix’s movie and TV rights to the Daredevil franchise expired last year, meaning that Marvel Studios and Sony, who owns Spider-Man, can now legally step in to potentially produce further shows and films based on the superhero.

Netflix’s Daredevil series starring Cox ran for three seasons beginning in 2015 before it was cancelled in November 2018.

Although the series came to an end two years ago, up until last year Marvel Studios has been unable to feature the superhero in any of their movies or TV shows before a two-year hold following the show’s cancellation expired in November last year.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will be released on 17 December.
