Trailer for Deadpool 2

Marvel is paying tribute to Stan Lee with a special after-credits cameo sequence in Once Upon a Deadpool.

The comics mogul, who died in November aged 95, had a cameo in Deadpool 2, which came out in May. Once Upon a Deadpool, a newly released PG-13 version of the same superhero movie, features the added homage.

Some of the footage shows Lee reacting to Deadpool’s costume, as reported by Complex – and even playfully asking why the superhero’s suit isn’t green.

The question appears to be a reference to Ryan Reynolds’s previous performance as Green Lantern in the 2011 film of the same name, which notably underperformed at the box office.

Lee’s jab is in line with the goofy, self-referencing humour that has been a part of the branding of the Deadpool franchise since the first film starring Reynolds came out in 2011.

The after-credit tribute also includes an interview clip in which Lee reflects on his own legacy.

“I don’t think about that much, you know?” he says. “When I’m gone, I really don’t care.”

He adds, laughing: “It doesn’t do you any good, when you’re gone.

Photos of Lee at different periods of his life flash on the screen as the interview footage plays, including a black and white shot of Lee working on a comic in his younger years.

An image of Lee’s signature in then shown above the dates: “1913-2018.”
