Star Trek Beyond actor Karl Urban thinks Netflix should make a Dredd TV series

Despite good reviews, the 2012 film failed to set the box-office alight

Dredd failed to set the box-office alight upon its initial release in 2012 despite good reviews and even better word of mouth.

Not even the healthy home entertainment sales (a reported £750,000 across one week in North America) were enough to get a follow-up off the ground, unfortunately for the film's legions of fans.

The good news is that the comic book adaptation's lead actor Karl Urban would still be up for appearing in one.

Urban - who will next be seen reprising his role of Dr. Leonard H. "Bones" McCoy in Star Trek Beyond - has confirmed he would consider starring in a sequel, even if arrived in the form of a series on Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Speaking to Comicbook.com, Urban said: "Yeah, I've gone on record saying that I would. Absolutely... What's clear to me is that there is an audience demand to see more and if we can find a way to have a legitimate and worthy successor to Dredd, I'd love to be a part of it.

"You know, it would have to be something where we were focused on Dredd and coming to sort of understand the deeper inner workings of the character, otherwise there wouldn't be much point doing it because it's a huge challenge to play a character whose eyes you can't see."

He finished by saying: "I'm sure it will get made at some point. Whether it's with me or not, I don't know."

Dredd was released in 2012 and co-starred Lena Headey, Olivia Thirlby and The Wire actor Wood Harris. Sylvester Stallone previously played the walking judge, jury and executioner in 1995 film Judge Dredd.
