Star Wars: Episode 7 actor Harrison Ford remained in hospital today after injuring his ankle on set.

The Han Solo actor underwent chest x-rays to determine the extent of his injuries, according to The Telegraph, following reports that he was crushed by a hydraulic door that formed part of the set for the Millennium Falcon.

Ford was airlifted from the Pinewood set to John Radcliffe hospital, though the dramatic method of transport was presumably a safety precaution and doesn't suggest the actor has sustained severe injuries.

A spokesman for Disney said: "Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII.

"He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care. Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates."

The accident comes a month after the 71-year-old and his Expendables 3 co-star Sylvester Stallone joked about not needing to take extra safety precautions in spite of their age.

"Precautions are not in the budget," Stallone said at Cannes. "Everyone gets hurt, there’s no way around it. You didn't have CGI back then [at the start of their careers], you just did it. That's kind of what we take pride in actually, keeping taking the bumps and bruises.”

Star Wars: Episode VII is set for an 18 December, 2015 release date.
