Star Wars: Harrison Ford reveals he's been wanting Han Solo to die for 30 years

Harrison Ford may be revelling in the nostalgia of characters past (did you hear the Indiana Jones 5 news?) but there's one he believes should have been killed off some time ago.

Partaking in a Q&A via Entertainment Weekly's Tumblr account, only now has the actor spoken about the fate of his legendary Star Wars character Han Solo in Episode VII: The Force Awakens - and it turns out he thinks he should have died several decades back.

"I think it's a fitting use of the character. I've been arguing for Han Solo to die for about 30 years, not because I was tired of him or because he’s boring, but his sacrifice for the other characters would lend gravitas and emotional weight," the actor wrote.

Ford fought for Han to be killed off in the original trilogy's closing film Episode VI: Return of the Jedi but had to wait for over 30 years for his wish to be granted in the JJ Abrams' blockbuster.

Speaking about which of his iconic character's costumes is his favourite, Ford opted for Indy: "[He] wears a leather jacket in the jungle…I’ve never had a proper explanation for that, but it looks cool."

As well as the adventurer, the actor will reprise his role of Rick Deckard in Blade Runner 2, the long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi classic. It'll be released January 2017.
