Star Wars: Natalie Portman hasn't seen The Force Awakens yet

"I’ve heard it’s amazing and it’s so nice that it’s sort of this continuing part of everyone’s shared cultural knowledge. [But] I haven’t been able to see it yet."

Every living soul has seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens by now, right?

Not the people in Star Wars, apparently. Which brings a whole new level of veracity to that old How I Met Your Mother quote; "The only people in the universe who haven't seen Star Wars are the characters in Star Wars and that's 'cause they lived 'em, Ted. That's 'cause they lived the Star Wars."

"I’ve heard it’s amazing and it’s so nice that it’s sort of this continuing part of everyone’s shared cultural knowledge," Natalie Portman told Good Morning America. "[But] I haven’t been able to see it yet."

Yes, Queen Padmé Amidala has yet to see The Force Awakens; clearly being too busy doing whatever a Galactic Senator does on a daily basis. It's understandable the actress may not look back so fondly on the franchise, considering the prequels' poisoned reputation ended up putting a significant dent in her career.

"Star Wars had come out around the time of Seagull, and everyone thought I was a horrible actress,” Portman once told New York magazine. “I was in the biggest-grossing movie of the decade, and no director wanted to work with me. Mike [Nichols] wrote a letter to Anthony Minghella and said, ‘Put her in Cold Mountain, I vouch for her’” And then Anthony passed me on to Tom Tykwer, who passed me on to the Wachowskis.”

The actress is currently promoting western Jane Got a Gun; which, funnily enough, sees her reunite with three of her old Star Wars castmates. "The three of us sort of had a reunion," she noted. "It was nice that we all had that familiarity to start off with."

So perhaps Portman would be happier never to see how well The Force Awakens turned out. For now, cue the inevitable witch hunt of prequel stars. Of fans desperately screaming in the collected faces of Keira Knightley, Rose Byrne, Jake Lloyd, and Liam Neeson, "Surely, you guys have seen it, right? Et tu, Brute?"
