Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker - trailer

A prologue for Christopher Nolan‘s new film is expected to be previewed at IMAX screenings of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker next month.

The filmmaker will unveil the first extended look at his time-bending drama, which has been rated PG-13 by the MPAA, although there’s no official word on what film it’ll precede.

In the past, Nolan has premiered footage from his new films, including The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises and Dunkirk, ahead of films I Am Legend, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Star Wars prequel, Rogue One.

Trailer Track has said it’s “almost a certainty” that the Tenet prologue will be shown ahead of JJ Abrams’s new Star Wars film, which will be released on 19 December.

In August, cinemagoers in the US watching Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw were treated to a 40-second clip teasing Nolan’s costly espionage thriller.

“Time has come for a new protagonist,” the teaser’s caption reads, as lead star John David Washington – later seen in riot gear – is shown repeating movements.

The clip ends with Washington wearing an oxygen mask as the film’s logo – stylised as TENƎꓕ – appears on screen moving backwards and upside down.

It’s yet to appear online.

According to Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR), Nolan’s new film is said to be costing approximately $225m (£174m), making it one of the most expensive original films of all time.

Tenet also stars Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh.
