Steven Spielberg will produce a television series based on the game “Halo”, Microsoft has announced.

The TV series will include exclusive interactive content for Microsoft’s newly released Xbox One, based on the blockbuster single-player game.

Few details about the content of the TV series have been announced, although it is expected to focus on the central “Halo” character Master Chief and his battles against the evil Covenant.

The game has previously been made into a live-action web series called "Halo: Forward Unto Dawn", but this is the first time an adaptation has been made into a TV format.

Spielberg will be an executive producer on the TV series. The director, who is best known for ET, Schindler’s List and Jurassic Park, has been an executive producer on over a dozen US TV series including Smash, Falling Skies and United States of Tara.

Microsoft’s decision to create original content for its new console comes after other digital platforms such as Netflix and Amazon have launched their own scripted dramas.
