Steven Spielberg promises there'll never be a Jaws remake

Gremlins and Who Framed Roger Rabbit may not be so safe, though.

“I would never remake Jaws", Steven Spielberg has declared in an inteview with Deadline.

The statement came off the back of Spielberg and Participant Media officially announcing their partnership, now coming under the name Amblin Partners. This follows Participant Media's partial financing of several titles under Spielberg's DreamWorks company, including Lincoln, The Help, and Bridge of Spies. Participant itself has delivered several high profile, enlightening documentaries including An Inconvenient Truth and He Named Me Malala, as well as this year's awards contender Spotlight

This led to re-surfaced rumours that Spielberg would now be looking to remake some of his past films, yet he insisted, “I would never remake one of my own movies — starting with Jaws — but there are Amblin titles in the library that could inspire new stories that were made popular by the films. There isn’t a single title that I’ve earmarked, but yes, I would like to.”

Just to highlight some of the possible titles at risk: Gremlins, Back to the Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Land Before Time, Cape Fear, Casper, and Men in Black. A few of which have already had hints of new sequels/reboots to varying degrees. Truly, nothing you hold dear is ever safe.

Jaws, though it was only Spielberg's second directorial feature, has now become widely regarded as the first true summer blockbuster. It was certainly an iconic moment in cinematic history, racking up an enormous $470 million worldwide.
