Despite being rated PG-13 in the US, a rating Warner Bros. and DC said they were always vying for, Suicide Squad will be a 15 in the UK.

The British Board of Film Classification cited “sustained threat” and “moderate violence” for the relatively high rating, coming as a surprise to many.

For those US fans disappointed the film was not R-Rated like Deadpool, this will come as some relief, while the announcement also gives insight into how violent the film really is, seemingly pushing the rating boundaries.

“For an R movie, you have to decide to do it right out the gate, and that was never the case here,” Ayer said in April at CinemaCon.

“We were always going to hit the PG-13 rating. But the film is meant to be that. It’s got edge, and it’s got attitude. And it’s got its own voice… There’s a lot in the film that’s going to surprise people.”
