Sundance Film Festival's 2010 World Competition award winners

Among the many awards presented at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival ceremony in Park City, Utah, on January 30, the World Cinema Prizes for international film winners follow:

World Cinema Jury Prize: Documentary
The Red Chapel (Det Røde Kapel) directed by Mads Brügger (Denmark). An eccentric trio travel to North Korea in the guise of a cultural exchange to challenge the regime.

World Cinema Jury Prize: Dramatic
Animal Kingdom, written and directed by David Michôd (Australia). A 17-year-old boy is caught between a criminal family and a detective who claims he can rescue him.

World Cinema Directing Award: Documentary
Space Tourists, directed by Christian Frei (Switzerland). An exploration of the impact of space tourism on the heavens and earth.

World Cinema Directing Award: Dramatic
Southern District, directed and written by Juan Carlos Valdivia (Bolivia). A bourgeois family witness social change beginning to penetrate their insulated world. The film also won the World Cinema Screenwriting Award.

World Cinema Cinematography Award: Documentary
His & Hers, cinematographers: Kate McCullough and Michael Lavelle (Ireland). A 90-year-old love story told over 70 days at different stages of their lives.

World Cinema Cinematography Award: Dramatic
The Man Next Door ( El Hombre de al Lado). Directors/cinematographers Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat (Argentina). An incident over two neighbors' common wall sparks a conflict.

World Cinema Special Jury Prize: Dramatic for Breakout Performance
Tatiana Maslany for her role as a starry-eyed teenager in Grown Up Movie Star (Canada).

World Cinema Special Jury Prize: Documentary
Enemies of the People, directed by Rob Lemkin and Thet Sambath (Cambodia/UK). A watershed account of Cambodian history.

World Cinema Documentary Editing Award
A Film Unfinished, edited by Joëlle Alexis (Germany/Israel). About Nazi-produced propaganda films.

Among the 117 feature-length films, 39 countries were represented. Contenders were selected from 1,804 international feature-length film submissions. Highlights from the awards ceremony can be viewed on the Festival website, www.sundance.org/festival.
