The Baftas go vegan with 'plant-based' menu

Attendees will be offered a 'quinoa salad with radishes and broad beans' and a 'roasted butternut squash sun-blushed tomato lasagne'

The Baftas are going all out this year to cater to celebrities’ every lifestyle choice.

The ceremony will be offering a special vegan menu for those who would prefer to avoid butter, cream, cheese, eggs and meat on the big night.

Vegan attendees will be offered a plant-based menu, featuring a "quinoa salad with radishes, broad beans, asparagus, peas and a lemon and olive oil dressing", as well as a "roasted butternut squash and sun-blushed tomato lasagne with wilted spinach, roasted pepper and sage".

Details about the vegan-friendly dessert have yet to be revealed.

The special menu follows news this week that Beyoncé has released a vegan, gluten-free meal delivery service with her husband Jay Z after “going vegan” in the winter of 2013.

Other vegan celebrities include Joaquin Phoenix, Thandie Newton, Alan Cumming, Woody Harrelson, Natalie Portman and Jessica Chastain, although none will be at the Baftas on Sunday to enjoy the vegan spread.

PETA director Mimi Bekhechi said: “Interest in vegan eating is skyrocketing in the UK and beyond. With some of the world’s best chefs, including Jamie Oliver and Wolfgang Puck, getting creative with cruelty-free cooking, we’re sure that guests attending the Baftas are in for a treat.”

The Baftas take place on Sunday 8 February at the Royal Opera House in London.
