Each year, over 250 films films executives are asked to name up to ten of their favourite scripts that were written in or are somehow linked to 2016 (production talks etc) but have never actually made it as far as principal photography.

The result is the Black List (below), which is ordered most to least voted for and requires a script to have been nominated by at least six different people.

It’s a useful list: Oscar winners/nominees Spotlight, Whiplash, Argo, The King’s Speech, Foxcatcher and The Imitation Game have all featured on previous years’ editions.

2016's listee include a Madonna biopic (which came out top) a comedy about a late night chat show from Mindy Kaling and a film about a bored bank teller who discovers he's a background character in an open world action-adventure video game.
