The Fault In Our Stars beats One Direction to become YouTube's most-liked movie trailer

It seems One Direction fans are no match for The Fault In Our Stars, which has beaten the boyband's This Is Us to become the most-liked trailer in YouTube's history.

John Green's best-selling book, adapted for the big screen, follows the lives of two teenage cancer patients who fall in love after meeting at a cancer support group.

The trailer has notched up a massive 273,000 likes and 17 million views since its online release in January, with the film set to hit UK cinemas on 19 June.

Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley star as Augustus and Hazel, in two roles far removed from their last performance together, as brother and sister in Divergent.

The two and a half minute clip begins with the illusion that everything is well in Hazel's life, until she says: "There's nothing in life that can't be fixed with a Peter Gabriel song. I like that version as much as the next girl does. It's just not the truth."

Cue emotional hospital scenes and dramatic slow-motion shots.

Since its 2012 publication, Green's moving novel has been named TIME magazine's fiction book of the year and is a New York Times number one bestseller.

Directed by Josh Boone, The Fault In Our Stars, also features Nat Wolff, Sam Trammell and Laura Dern.

That the movie has toppled One Direction's fame-centric 2013 concert film in the YouTube likes chart suggests that people might be after something a little more deep and meaningful after all.
