The Irishman: Official Trailer Premiere

With a running time of three-and-a-half hours, The Irishman is Martin Scorsese's longest film ever – so one might wonder how many people watched it in one sitting after its Netflix premiere.

According to Nielsen data cited by Variety, 751,000 US viewers watched the 209-minute movie in its entirety after it became available on the streaming platform on 27 November.

This amounts to 18 per cent of the day's viewers, meaning the film performed similarly to Bird Box, the two-hour post-apocalyptic thriller starring Sandra Bullock released in 2018.

The Irishman, in that regard, reportedly averaged a higher score than El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, released in October. Just 11 per cent of the day's viewers kept watching until the end, according to Variety, despite a running time of two hours – significantly shorter than The Irishman.

Friday, 29 November was reportedly The Irishman's most successful day, with 930,000 people watching the film in full.

Overall, 17.1 million unique viewers watched Scorsese's drama in the first five days following its Netflix release, according to Variety.

The Irishman is available to stream on Netflix now.
