With his days in The Walking Dead now behind him, it seems that actor Steven Yeun couldn’t stay away from a success for too long - his new film, horror comedy Mayhem, currently holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Best known for playing the loyal and resourceful survivor Glenn Rhee in the AMC drama, Yeun has returned to the world of gore with Joe Lynch’s Mayhem. Fresh from a limited festival run earlier in the year, critics have unanimously praised the new film from the filmmaker whose previous credits include Everly and Knights of Badassdom.
Mayhem focuses on Yeun’s character Derek Cho, a white-collar worker who is framed and fired from his job on the same day. But before he can leave the office, a mysterious virus breaks out and the building is sent into quarantine. As the infection spreads, Derek has to fight to save his life as well as his job, when eponymous mayhem ensues and the victims begin to lose their mind. Sound familiar?
Scott Weinberg from Nerdist dubbed Mayhem “certifiably insane” while William Bibbiani from CraveOnline noted “it’s an aptly titled film." Yeun is praised for his lead performance, with Collider’s Haleigh Foutch saying: “Yeun revels in the role, serving an excellent reminder why he should be topping casting lists as a Hollywood leading man."
Recent Certified Fresh titles include Greta Gerwig’s upcoming directorial debut Lady Bird and Netflix Original murder documentary Strong Island.
There is currently no release date confirmed for Mayhem in the UK.
