Alexander McQueen biopic in the works from director of 45 Years

Andrew Haigh will be directing the film while playwright Chris Urch will pen the script

A biopic focusing on the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen is in the works.

British filmmaker Andrew Haigh, whose 2015 acclaimed drama 45 Years starred Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay, is in line to direct.

On scriptwriting duty is playwright Chris Urch whose latest work The Rolling Stone recently began its run in London's West End; the play tells the story of a Ugandan family caught up in the country's homophobic legislation.

McQueen began his influential career as an apprentice working on London's Savile Row before going on to achieve such feats as becoming head of French luxury brand Givenchy and tailoring David Bowie on his tours in the Nineties. He tragically committed suicide in 2010.

The biopic will come from producer Damian Jones who this year oversees the release of Dad's Army - the big-screen adaptation of the classic sitcom - A Street Cat Named Bob (starring Downton Abbey's Joanne Froggatt) and Noel Clarke's latest urban drama Brotherhood.

No more details are currently known about the as-of-yet untitled McQueen biopic.
