Tom Hiddleston has addressed speculation that he could be in the running to replace Daniel Craig in the James Bond franchise.

Craig is set to step down as 007 after the release of No Time to Die later this year, with Hiddleston ranking alongside Idris Elba, Bridgerton’s Rege-Jean Page and Tom Hardy as one of the most popular candidates to take over the role.

However, speaking to Empire magazine, the Avengers star suggested that the James Bond rumour mill had left him treading carefully whenever he’s asked about the subject.

“What can I say that you don’t already know?” he said. “It’s interesting in itself that I’ve suddenly become very aware of what I’m saying, is it not?

“Because there’s something about what I’m saying that becomes the story. Not for you, but for the world outside. Whatever I say, I’ve found, generated more questions.”

No Time to Die is scheduled for release on 30 September in the UK and 8 October 2021 in the US.

Hiddleston is set to star in the Disney Plus series Loki this June, during which he will reprise the role of the God of Mischief from the Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
