Tom Holland says he’s concerned for ‘poor girl’ he ‘breaks up with’ in future
Spider-Man star wants to protect potential girlfriends from dedicated fanbase
Tom Holland has said he’s concerned his fans would turn against any girl he breaks up with in the future.
The British actor won legions of dedicated followers after being cast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Spider-Man in 2016.
Such is the intensity of his fanbase that the videos and photos he shares with his 30 million Instagram followers are heavily analysed, which has led to the actor being “very, very selective” about what he posts.
Holland admitted in a new interview that it is because of this that he tries to keep his romantic life fairly private.
He elaborated by saying that he wants to protect any future girlfriend from online vitriol if he was ever to call time on their relationship.
“If you were to break up with that person, people will have their own opinions as to why you broke up or whose fault it was,” he told Esquire, adding: “And me being a famous person and having people that love me around the world, if I were to break up with a poor girl, they might think it was her fault."
He continued: “I wouldn’t want that pressure to be on someone because of me.”
Holland is thought to be dating British actor Nadia Weekes. Last year, he shared a few photos of Weekes online, stating: “I spoke to her about it, and that was something that she felt comfortable with me posting.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, Holland revealed that he asserted his authority "for the first time" on the set of the forthcoming Spider-Man film by refusing to do a certain thing.
“You’re going to have to deal with it,” he told Marvel producers.
Holland's new film, Cherry, will be released on Apple TV+ on 12 March.
