Transformers 5 gets title and production start date because this Michael Bay franchise will never end

We're not going to feign excitement for the upcoming Transformers film - the fifth in the franchise. Instead, we're just going to assume that - considering it's status as one of the most globally successful film properties around - there are those of you that do.

Director Michael Bay has revealed the new film's title and, continuing in the terrible subtitle tradition, Transformers 5 has not disappointed; it'll be called The Last Knight which probably ranks above third entry Dark of the Moon as the weakest title to date ('honourable' mention for Revenge of the Fallen, of course).

Despite what the title suggests, though, there's nothing final about The Last Knight with three more Hasbro outings in the works which will bring this huge franchise to a grand total of eight films.

The latest entry, Age of Extinction, was released in 2014. The first three films' stars Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley were recast in favour of Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci and Nicola Peltz.

Wahlberg will return for The Last Knight joined by Nickelodeon actor Isabela Moner and stand-up comedian Jerrod Carmichael. The film is scheduled to begin production in Detroit next month.

It's hard to remember that 2007's first Transformers film was actually alright.
