Venom 2: Tom Hardy returning for sequel as Marvel boss hints at Spider-Man crossover
Meeting between the two superheroes confirmed as 'likely at some point'
Tom Hardy will return to play the lead role in a Venom sequel.
Sony producer Amy Pascal has confirmed the news in an interview with Fandango. “I can say that Tom Hardy will be back, magnificently playing that character as no one else can,” she said.
Hardy plays failed reporter Eddie Brock, who becomes bonded to an alien parasite and assumes an anti-hero identity. It has also been confirmed previously that the Venom story takes place in the same universe as Spider-Man, prompting excitement about a possible crossover.
When asked about this in an interview with CinemaBlend, Marvel boss Kevin Feige stated that the decision was “up to Sony”, but “it seems likely at some point”.
“Sony has both those characters and has Venom in their world,” he said. “I don’t know what their plans are for another Venom or if they’re doing that.”
Although reviews of Venom were mixed, it made a huge impact at the box office. It took $855m (£673.5m), and was named as the highest-grossing superhero origin film of all time by Forbes shortly after release.
