"He knows who he is now so he is trying to find him. He’s been searching for him. It’s been 10 years and he hasn’t found him and then something happens."

Though fans of the comics have been clued in since the beginning; it now appears as if we've received confirmation the cinematic universe of the X-Men will also fall in line with current canon.

Evan Peters, who plays Quicksilver both in X-Men: Days of Future Past and the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, recently confirmed to JoBlo that his character is, indeed, son to Magneto (Michael Fassbender).

"I have learned that he’s my father at this point and I am trying to … I don’t know what I can say," he followed with a pause. "Yeah. It’s like an adoptive child or any kind of child who has a strange father trying to… He knows who he is now so he is trying to find him. He’s been searching for him. It’s been 10 years and he hasn’t found him and then something happens."

Many had assumed this would turn out to be the case, considering Days of Future Past had already dropped some fairly substantial hints. When Quicksilver hears of Magneto's abilities in controlling metal, for example, he mentions that his mother used to know someone with the same skills.

Peters also elaborated a little on his own stand-out scene in Days of Future Past, in which his character uses his powers of super-speed to break Magneto out of the Pentagon. Though his role in the film is brief, the slow-mo sequence (soundtracked to Jim Croce's 'Time in a Bottle'), turned out to be a favourite amongst the franchise's fans; leading many to hope the character would get an extended role in Apocalypse.

"Yeah, I think that’s been the hardest thing," he reflected. "Can we top it? They did such a f*cking awesome job. The special effects team is amazing. Bryan Schmears over at Second Unit, everybody just made that whole sequence awesome, I thought. I was just a minion. They just told me what to do so I didn't really have much to do with it but I was curious to see how they were going to top it and if they could and I think they have. I'm very excited to see it myself. I'm excited for everybody to see it because we've been working hard on it."

The actor also shared his opinions on the silver screen's other Quicksilver: the character played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

"They could always bring him back to life somehow or there could be another studio that starts making superhero films and throw Quicksilver in there,” he said. “I was really confused as to why they killed him. I thought it was really cool. It was a different take on the character, completely different. Scarlet Witch was there and yeah. I was kind of bummed that they killed him."

X-Men: Apocalypse hits UK theatres 19 May.
