An Unfinished Life (12A)

An Unfinished Life could be a parody of a scenic, middle-brow, honey-glazed Miramax production. Directed by the maker of Chocolat and The Cider House Rules, it stars Robert Redford as a grizzled cowboy who may well have a heart of gold beneath his leathery hide. His only friend is a virtuous old coot with bags of homespun philosophy, so he's played by Morgan Freeman (inset).

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez runs away from a bad relationship to Redford's ranch in Wyoming. Lopez was married to Redford's son until he was killed in a car accident a decade earlier, and Redford still blames her. But maybe - just maybe - he'll be softened up by the grand-daughter he never knew he had.
