This remake of the Eighties slasher movie has Jackie Earle Haley donning the knife-fingered glove of Freddy Krueger, and haunting schoolkids who appear to be in their mid-twenties.

Like so many current horror films, it opts for loud noises in lieu of legitimate spookiness. Essentially, it's the cinematic equivalent of an X Factor winner's debut single: a glossy, reverential cover version with no hope of replacing the original in audience's hearts.
