This big-budget fantasy avoids Disney sentimentality and merry ditties in favour of Lord of the Rings and Narnia-style action adventure.

Kristen Stewart plays the fairest grunge maiden of them all, Charlize Theron excels as the demented Queen hell-bent on staying youthful and Chris Helmsworth (Thor) is the hunk (with a dodgy Scottish/Irish accent) who digs White. Overlong, undemanding and visually arresting.
