Tom Hanks plays Thomas, the sort of perfect father who puts your teeth on edge.

He spends most of his time constructing complex games for his precocious and odd son, Oskar (Thomas Horn), to solve. After Tom perishes during the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks (referred to in this mawkish film as "the worst day"), Oskar unearths a mysterious key in his father's belongings, which leads him on a quest across New York, meeting various mournful folk. Dismal.
