Quvenzhané Wallis, in Beasts of the Southern Wild

Quvenzhané Wallis is astonishing as six-year-old Hushpuppy, who lives with her often absent father (“Daddy could have changed into a tree or a bug, there wasn't no way to know”) in the poverty-stricken “Bathtub” area on the Louisiana Bayou.

One day a storm of biblical proportions arrives and Hushpuppy drifts on a nature-filled odyssey. Benh Zeitlin's poetic debut, inspired by Hurricane Katrina, is a film of beauty, compassion and anger that evokes Mark Twain, Luis Bunuel and Terrence Malick.
