David Ayer's buddy movie, apart from the found-footage gimmick that underpins the storytelling, is extremely plausible.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña are the LA cops who, like all the best partners from High Street Blues' Renko and Bobby to Starsky and Hutch, wisecrack, share their secrets and cover each others' backs. The chemistry between the heroic duo is never less than compelling in this ultimately depressing look at policing gangs in South Central.
