A fair amount of vitriol was thrown at this expensive sci-fi, but, although it's a little plodding, Oblivion's not too shoddy. It's a mish-mash of half-decent, traditional science-fiction ideas – an apocalyptic landscape, a secret human community, memory removal – and it would pass muster as a Doctor Who or Star Trek episode. Set on a decimated Earth 60 years in the future, Tom Cruise plays a drone repairman whose world is changed by finding a group of humans (led by Morgan Freeman).
