Peter Mullan scene-steals throughout Jane Campion's admirably slow-moving crime drama set in small-town New Zealand, which centres on the disappearance of 12-year-old Tui and Elizabeth Moss's damaged detective's search for her. Some of the best moments in this tense, haunting thriller are the eccentric ones that do virtually nothing to propel the plot. Holly Hunter captivates as a long-haired guru, but this is all about Moss who has been deservedly Emmy-nominated.
