It's more po-faced than the original series and it lacks the cracking chemistry between Kirk, Spock and Bones, but Gene Roddenberry's smart re-boot had two trump cards: Patrick Stewart's compassionate Captain Picard and Brent Spiner's baffled android, Data, who has all the best lines: "If the warp drive fails to activate, the results could be... unfortunate". The Starship Enterprise crew confront fugitive Klingons and the Romulans in this deeply humane series.
