DVD: Buried, For retail & rental (Icon)
This cunning thriller traps Ryan Reynolds in a wooden crate, six feet under the surface of an Iraqi desert, and for 90 minutes the viewer sees nothing but what Reynolds can see by the light of a Zippo lighter, a torch, and a mobile phone.
In the circumstances, Buried is remarkably dynamic and frightening, but also plaintive and blackly funny. It doesn't cheat with any 127 Hours-style flashbacks or cuts to the outside world, either.
