The trouble with Ralph Fiennes's modern-dress film of Coriolanus is that it won't let us forget how achingly "relevant" it is.

As demonstrators clash with lines of riot police, and a public debate is conducted on a TV chat show, it's like a piece of 1980s political theatre aimed at classes of bored schoolchildren. Still, it improves when he lets the actors get on with being Shakespearean: Vanessa Redgrave and Brian Cox are exceptional.
