The best of the CSI strands benefits from Gary Sinise as blunt Detective Mac Taylor and Carmine Giovinazzo's intense Danny Messer.

There's very little room for actual characterisation in CSI land, but these two actors do invest these investigators with personality. Unfortunately, this formulaic police procedural has lost the services of the wonderful Stella Bonasera (Melina Kanakaredes), with her huge, frizzy hair. She has been replaced by the less frizzy Sela Ward as Jo Danville. Season seven involves the usual blend of dastardly deaths with a smattering personal strife – namely a vendetta here against Mac.
