Whoosh! What was that? That, mate, was your life! There's a shocking awakening that comes to many men when they stop working – everything else.
Everybody's Fine is Robert De Niro's touché to Jack Nicholson's About Schmidt. It's about men waking up to what's left of their real lives. The biggest klaxon is loss. Frank's (De Niro's) wife has died and he realises his grown-up children are still "the children" in his head. His wife coped with the psychological development stuff; he earned the college fees. Frank realises his mistakes (very gradually) and wants to make amends. In real life, it's often too late. Watch this for an early alarm call, dads.
