Stephen Poliakoff's latest is a languidly paced mystery-thriller set on the eve of the Second World War.
You can luxuriate in its cast, ravishing couture, sumptuous country houses and all-round prestigious atmosphere... but there's no getting past how silly the plotting is. It depends on a cabal of conspirators recording their treasonous meetings, leaving the recordings lying around, and then gruesomely murdering anyone who hears them, however close to the conspirators they might be.
