It's transition time for the Gossip Girl brigade: no longer at Constance Billard, our gorgeous students have dispersed to go to college.

Well, kind of. Blair, Dan and Vanessa are at NYU. And Serena has opted, against her mother's will, for a gap year. Chuck, meanwhile, is enjoying life as heir to his father's business. There are a few wobbles: the ratings-seeking "guest star" (Hilary Duff), a much-talked about dorm-room threesome, and an implausibly high-powered fling on Serena's part. But, thanks to the increasing prominence of Dan's sister Jenny, things don't drift far. A heart-breaking finale shows this programme has life in it yet.
