Austrian director Jessica Hausner's nerve-jangling psychological horror combines the darkness of countryman Michael Haneke, Tarkovsky-esque static shots and the supernatural suggestiveness of Picnic at Hanging Rock.

Everything is uncertain as Irene starts her job as a clerk at a luxury hotel where her predecessor went "missing". A soundtrack of murmurs allies with a cast of Lynchian characters to create an eerie sense of dread, and confirm Hausner as one to watch.
