Any love story about pained longing at a train station will inevitably draw comparisons to classic David Lean/Noel Coward romance, Brief Encounter.
Stéphane Brizé's somewhat typical French relationship drama centres on builder Jean (Vincent Lindon), a contented family man thrown into romantic turmoil by his son's teacher Véronique Chambon (Sandrine Kiberlain). Brizé uses music to great emotional effect, augmenting the chemistry of the superbly acted would-be lovers. It's a film charged with great impact, and, before we know it, we're at that train station with a difficult choice being made before our eyes.
