Margin Call is set in the offices of a Wall Street investment firm on the eve, literally, of 2008's financial crash.

It's an admirably grown-up film, with enough Mamet-like wit in its Oscar-nominated screenplay to attract a phenomenal cast (Paul Bettany, Kevin Spacey, Demi Moore, Jeremy Irons, etc). But it doesn't deliver either as a gripping drama or an enlightening guide to our current woes. And in asking us to feel the pain of these bankers, it's asking way too much.
