Emma Thompson's magical, hairy-warted nursemaid is back, this time visiting a farm in the 1940s, where Maggie Gyllenhaal is struggling while her husband's at war.
Thompson has scripted a well-oiled entertainment machine fuelled by a profound understanding of what children enjoy, whether it's cowpats, talking welly boots, cowpats, piglets swimming, or cowpats. Rhys Ifans, Maggie Smith, Bill Bailey, Ralph Fiennes and the child actors are excellent.
